Our mission
The main objective of the RIVER project is to study and develop possible solutions for inland navigation vessels, with low carbon or no carbon emissions, in compliance with NRMM regulations. To this end, RIVER used oxygen combustion combined with carbon capture and storage (CCS) technology to achieve nitrogen-free combustion and zero carbon emissions.
In oxygen combustion, pure oxygen is used for combustion instead of air. Since there is no nitrogen entering the engine, NOx emissions will be completely eliminated.
Finally, the CO2 is stored and then transformed into non-therapeutic gels or into therapeutic products.
RIVER is a project co-funded by the European Union (Interreg Noth-west Europe program) which brings together 9 partners from 5 countries (France, England, Netherlands, Luxembourg and Germany).
